Ringway Hounslow Highways has launched six new mechanical sweepers onto the borough’s roads, featuring designs by local schoolchildren.

Three of the machine are Scarab Sweeper' M25H compact sweepers that will join the existing sweeper fleet as part of a £500,000 investment.

The new fleet has been specifically chosen to meet the demanding urban environment in Hounslow with heavily parked vehicles and high traffic levels.

The unveiling of the fleet coincided with the presentation to the winners of a competition run with the schools in the borough. Students from local primary schools were asked to take part in a competition to design an anti-littering and fly tipping poster. The winning designs are featured on the six new vehicles.

The six winners came from Cranford Primary School in Cranford and Our Lady and St John’s Catholic Primary School in Brentford and were at the launch to see their designs on the vehicles for the first time. The winning schools will receive iPads and all six students whose entries were selected to be displayed on the sweepers received a book voucher for £25 along and a goodie bag including merchandise from sweeper manufacturers Scarab.

Martin Clack, Divisional Director at Hounslow Highways, said, “Ringway Hounslow Highways are very grateful to all of the schools who took part in this Environmental Art competition. The designs that were submitted by the borough’s school children were of a high standard and the winning entries convey a strong anti-litter message. This initiative builds upon our community engagement, behavioural education and enforcement activities.”

The sweepers were unveiled at Hounslow Highways’ Jubilee House depot on this Tuesday afternoon (6th March) when guests included the leader of London Borough of Hounslow, Councillor Steve Curran.

He said: “There were so many fantastic entries from the school children of Hounslow to the competition that it was difficult to pick just six winners. I had the opportunity to meet the winners whose artwork has been transposed onto the new sweepers. All six look brilliant.

“The artwork is very eye-catching and gives a clear message of the importance of recycling and not littering. I’m sure the investment in the new sweepers will help ensure we can all enjoy living in a cleaner and tidier borough for many years to come.”

The City of Santiago, Chile has benefitted from steady economic growth and through successive development campaigns has become a modern metropolis in South America. The Government Authorities fight a constant battle to improve air quality in a location that suffers from Atmospheric thermal inversion caused by its geography and climate. This meteorological phenomenon means dust and pollutants produced by road traffic and industries are held in the lower atmosphere, near ground level, leading to respiratory issues for the public.

The Government of Santiago, took an important decision to increase the quality and frequency of street sweeping across their capital. And over the past 7 years have put over 25 Scarab M6 sweepers into operation across the various districts by Demarco who are a key contractor in the Santiago area.

The machines were sold by the Scarab distributor, General Trade S.A, who maintains the machines on a service contract to ensure they provide the highest level service and utilization.

It was with great pleasure we recently had a visit from Julio Heyermann and Sergio Correa from Demarco and Felipe Galilea and Alejandro Baeza from General Trade S.A to discuss the technological enhancements and advances we have made on the latest generation sweepers which would be available on their future requirements.
