Scarab Sweepers & Bennamann | 100% Renewably Charged Electric Sweeper Trial

Scarab Sweepers, in partnership with Bennamann, conducted a live demonstration with Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) to showcase a fully renewable, off-grid electric street sweeping solution.

The trial featured the RAVO E2 electric compact sweeper, powered entirely by biomethane-generated electricity using Bennamann’s mobile EV charging system - delivering a truly sustainable, zero-emission operation. This unit allows customers to benefit from electric vehicle technology without the need to invest in costly infrastructure enhancements. It delivers DC charging capacbilities to electric vehicles using truly renewable fuel, which is sourced in the United Kingdom.

THE CHALLENGE

THE SOLUTION

The trial combined two innovative technologies: the RAVO E2 Electric Sweeper (a zero-emission, all-electric compact sweeper built for full-shift performance) and the Bennamann Mobile EV Charger (a portable, off-grid charging unit powered by 100% renewable biomethane).

The RAVO E2 demonstrated suitability for day-to-day municipal sweeping tasks, matching and outperforming operational expectations of a traditional diesel machine. Whilst in operation, this sweeper delivered zero-emissions and was charged using completely renewable fuel.

PROSPECTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The trial delivered measurable sustainability benefits:

  • 16.2kg CO₂ saved per day = Equivalent to driving approximately 60 miles in a petrol car.
  • 4,125.9kg CO₂ saved annually = Equivalent to driving approximately 14,000 miles in a petrol car.
  • 28,881.3kg CO₂ saved over 7 years = Equivalent to driving approximately 75,000 miles in a petrol car.
