Manufacturing Engineer

Job Purpose:

To be a key member of the manufacturing team supporting production by optimising the assembly processes in terms of digital instructions, tooling requirements Shadow boards, factory layouts, process flow line design and implementation, Route cause and analysis, Using A3 problem solving techniques and reporting, Challenge the current standards with a view of increasing productivity, Review, current process trends, creation of KPI’S for shop floor display and management review, identifying and resolving Health and Safety issues.


Main Tasks:

    • To develop comprehensive build processes for each product to improve the standardisation, quality, and training for each machine, using Visual factory software.
    • To implement process documentation to record build stage sign off and control important assembly processes.
    • To work with Inspection to build quality into the process, promoting the no fault forward ethos and drive continuous improvement.
    • To work with the Assembly Management to develop visual management boards, KPI’s and target boards.
    • To work with Kaizen teams on the shop floor to deliver improvement projects including 5s.
    • Using lean manufacturing methodologies to improve production efficiency by identifying and eliminating non-value adding activities, reducing the Eight Wastes, improving flow, reducing handling, improving line balancing, etc.
    • To design and implement the use of jigs, fixtures, and specialist tooling to aid assembly opeations.
    • To design and implement racks, trolleys and handling aids for the storage and movement of parts throughout the shop floor.
    • To Introduce company owned dedicated tooling on shadow boards in each workstation to eliminate personal toolkits.
    • To be the shop floor contact for the purchase of tooling and the keeper of the tooling register.
    • To maintain and develop new shop floor layouts using CAD to optimise flow.
    • To undertake special projects as required.

Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience in low volume and high value assembly operations
    • Understanding of Visual Factory systems.
    • Excellent knowledge Office 365 and ability to create and update power automate systems.
    • Proficient in lean manufacturing methodologies 5S -JIT- KAN BAN- Work place organisation.
    • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Proficient in the use of Solid works with the ability to provide support to others.
    • A good working knowledge of SAP
    • A clear attention to detail ensuring tasks are completed accurately.
    • Well organised with good time management skills
    • Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills with shop floor and management.
    • Be able to convince fitters to adopt new methods of working and support management in driving change.
    • To form and utilise effective working relationships with other departments.
