Scarab`s Sweeping Service

Customer service contracts for sweeping machines offered by Scarab Sweepers are now being snapped up by customers, as Parts and Service Manager Andy Farley revealed this week. “We’ve offered our customers service contracts and in the beginning, there were few takers but things are now changing” said Andy.

“The industry is placing even higher demands from the manufacturers to produce sweepers that can not only cope with these demands, but at a competitive price.

“Downtime and the costs involved have never been as important, with contractors now facing huge penalties for failure in performance”.

In particular, the working week is getting longer and longer. The average yearly working hours for sweeping equipment in Europe is somewhere between 1,800 and 2,000 hours, but in some contracts that rises to up to 6,000 hours, with double and even triple shift operations.

Scarab is trying to address some of these issues through its after sales service and service contracts in particular.

“We try to offer a service contract tailored to meet the customer’s demands and work load” said Andy.

“We offer two types of contract, Service Contract or Repair and Maintenance Contract, each tailored to cover the period of the contract so that any yearly increases are not passed onto the customer during this period.

“Other benefits include factory trained engineers carrying out the work, fully equipped service vehicles, a comprehensive check list and all services carried out on site without the need to take the sweeper to a dedicated workshop”.

Richard Burnham, Fleet Engineer, London Borough of Hillingdon praises Scarab’s exceptional sweeping performance, reflecting on their 20 year association with the Scarab organisation and in particular a more recent Service Contract. “There is no doubt that the single engined Scarab truck mounted sweeper concept has significantly saved fuel costs but more importantly for the residents of the Hillingdon area is the reduction of exhaust emissions to the minimum possible”.

Scarab carry out a service every 300 hours, so is in a good position to keep the customer informed as to how the equipment is being looked after during operation.

“The customer is better able to control his costs and plan for any extra work which may need to be carried out on the sweeper due to wear and tear or through operative damage, “ said Andy.

“This information is mentioned on the checklist which we carry out at each service. These check lists are sent out to the department managers, or service coordinators to keep them informed of the general condition of the sweeper”.

Scarab now have a substantial amount of customers who are operating with their sweeping equipment covered by Scarab Service contracts, including a number of Contract Hire Companies plus Municipal Authorities.

Customers inform Scarab of the hours intended to be performed each week which determines the initial frequency of visits per annum. Scarab can then proactively advise the customer when a service is due and during the contract amend if necessary. “It is a simple but effective way of alleviating the service headaches for the customers so they are able to concentrate on their core business” added Andy.

Scarab also offer “Impress Stock” for multiple vehicle contracts, particularly for fast moving consumable parts thereby reducing urgent/premium carriage costs.

Andy Farley endorsed “The whole aim is a partnership to ensure complete satisfaction for the duration of the sweepers service life”.

The service contracts offered apply to the whole Scarab range from the versatile urban/precinct sweeper the Scarab Minor available from 3.5<4.2 tonne GVW. The Scarab hydrostatic single engine range which responds immediately to the Authorities with concerns regarding “Global Warming”, with models available from 7.5 < 19 tonne GVW. For operators with preference for the traditional twin engine sweepers the Scarab Mistral range is readily available on chassis from 13 tonne GVW upwards.

With a complete range of sweepers and service contracts to suit, Scarab can meet the demands of the most discerning operator.
