The latest version of our well-known Minor,
the VM, has been selected as part of Safeway`s site maintenance
establishment for their new distribution centres around the
country. "It is already making its presence felt"
reports Site Services Manager Richard Tucker. Indeed, so well-swept
was the site that, when Scarab arrived to take some photos
on a typically dark, wet and windy summer`s day, it was hard
to find any real work for the Minor to do.
Safeways do not view these sweepers as luxuries and, as with
any other item of capital plant, they have to pay their way.
This is already happening at Coventry, Richard Tucker told
us, and the managers of the local Safeway stores can now hire
the Minor to keep their own sites up to spec, at a considerable
saving over the prices charged by the local authority or contractors.
But Richard hasn`t stopped there. He has already secured another
contract for the Minor, by hiring it out to his next-door-neighbours
on the rapidly developing Prologis Park estate.

There is little doubt that the
Scarab Minor is the single most versatile sweeper currently
in productiion, with twin front-brushes, a wide sweep broom
and its unique side brush, giving a sweeping pattern more akin
to a truck-mount than a compact. Add a high pressure water system,
superb suction power and the optional 1.6m³ Hi-Tip hopper
and it can tackle a far wider range of tasks than more run -
of - the - mill compact sweepers. Safeway exemplify this in
their use of the machine, by both demanding and also receiving
excellent all-round performance. Whether it is engaged in general
site sweeping duties, or in using its standard 4 metre wander
suction hose, high pressure hand lance and front spray bar to
maintain Safeway`s high standards of cleanliness in areas as
diverse as resource reclamation, the loading docks or the removal
of tyre marks from site marker lines and wind-blown litter from
boundary fences, the Minor is proving to be the perfect partner.
Scarab
wish to extend their gratitude to Safeways for their kind
co-operation and assistance to us during the compilation of
this article. |
