A cavalcade and exhibition of municipal vehicles ranging from an early 20th century steam roller to modern refuse collection vehicles and road sweepers will be part of McCreath Taylor`s centenary celebrations.

"The company has been supplying plant and equipment to Local Authorities and Civil Engineering contractors for 100 years," says Peter Johnston, who along with his son David, have jointly owned the Lisburn based company since 1999.

The now retired Hugh McCReath provides an insight into the previous 93 years when, speaking from his Stirlingshire home, he recounted how his grandfather, also Hugh, "established the company in Glasgow in 1906."

"UK expansion included a Belfast depot in 1925. At this time we were agents for the famous Shelvoke and Drewry company."

He is delighted that the proud tradition of high quality service has not only continued but been developed by the new owners.

He will see this for himself when he joins other guests at the Island Civic Centre Lisburn on Wednesday 27th September 2006 for the official handover of the "state of the art" Scarab Merlin heavy duty road sweepers, purchased from McCreath Taylor by Lisburn City Council.

The cavalcade will then leave from the Centre and proceed through the town to the company premises at Flush Park, Lisburn where the Centenary Exhibition will begin.
