North East Milestone for Londonderry Garage and Scarab

A year of celebrations for Londonderry Garage of Northallerton, North Yorkshire as the company celebrates 50 years in business with its founder Ron Exelby still going strong and his son Michael continuing the success as current Managing Director.

It was half way through the first 50 years that Ron and the late founder of Scarab Sweepers, Rodger Hoadley met together in 1979 and formed the close association that, this year reached its 25th.

Commented Ron Exelby “I can’t recall any insurmountable problems between Scarab and Londonderry Garage. Our close association endorsed the importance of people and friendship being the foundation of a successful relationship, which is mirrored with our customers throughout the North East”

Ron Exelby’s representing the Multicar chassis in the 1980’s and its introduction to Rodger Hoadley, saw the origins of the “Scarab Minor” – a compact Scarab designed and built sweeper body mounted on an East German chassis. A combination that resulted in over 800 small Scarab Sweepers built and supplied Worldwide before Scarab developed and built their own “hydrostatic” Minor chassis.

“25” – “50” – “800” – Londonderry Garage have also been responsible for the supply, and often long term maintenance, of nearly 200 Scarab Sweepers and both parties endorsed “long may it continue”

The Londonderry Show attracted over 50 exhibitors along with visitors from the North East region including others from the Midlands, Wales and Scotland.
