Enfield put two Merlins in the starting blocks

Enfield Council have recently taken delivery of two new Scarab Merlin Xp hydrostatic sweepers Mounted on Daf 45 7.5t chassis.  The two new vehicles will be replacing a 15 tonne sweeper from another manufacturer.  The reasons for doing this include increased resilience within the service, improved flexibility as the service no longer requires an HGV qualified driver and improved support to residential sweeping teams operating across the borough.

These well specified Scarab Merlin Xp’s  will fit into Enfield Council’s current fleet very well, by offering  heavy truck mount performance, with the manoeuvrability of a smaller machine.  Environmental wins are an added feature of the Merlin Xp, the sweeper offers to Enfield lower fuel consumption and a reduced Co2 output, when compared to the previous twin engine machine.

David Coventry, Street Scene Section Manager said, we are very pleased with our new Scarab Merlin sweepers, they will offer real improvements to the service in a way that our residents will recognise a difference, like any business improving customer satisfaction,  in this case our residents,  is key to our success.  Our staff feel at home in the sweeper and the machines, procured within a competive market, have arrived at a time when we need to ensure that all of London is looking at it’s best for the Olympics.

The two Scarab Merlin Xps, pictured below include duel sweep, high pressure wash, cctv camera system and an extra side locker to aid storage.  Drivers feel the benefits of “home comforts” whilst at work within a package that offers attention to detail, in the sweepers design, in build quality and in subsequent performance which when taken as a package guarantees an excellent tool for the trade.

Last Saturday Lüpold had the official hand over for their new Scarab Mistral along with other new machines, Kehrtec our Swiss Distributor took the photo below showing a oompah band in front of their new vehicle.

All Lüpold vehicles are carefully handpainted with the vehicles driver having a direct input on how they would like their new vehicles graphics to look.

The pictures shows Roland with his „Holstuonar Bläsern“ handing over the Sweeper to Lüpold. Lüpold always invites his customers and organises a big event for hand overs. The musicians played as a present to the Lüpold company.

Oadby & Wigston Borough Councils latest Scarab Road Sweeper

When Brian Kew, Transport Manager at Oadby & Wigston BC, needed something a little different, he turned to Scarab Sweepers for help. “We wanted a sweeper that was slightly out of the ordinary”, explained Brian. “The reason for choosing Scarab once again is that they deliver everything we ask for.”

Asked to elaborate, Brian went on to say, “we needed a very manoeuvrable sweeper that could offer us a long working cycle, so the DAF 45 12t chassis with a Merlin body was a perfect fit. But, to go with that, we needed an overhead boom to empty gullies, as we found it was far more cost effective for the Council to empty them, rather than an outside contractor. To carry out this task, an overhead boom was required and on a 12t chassis this is usually outside of the norm. That is where the Scarab design team got to work and the end result, pictured below, really does satisfy all our needs.”

This new Scarab Merlin purchased by Oadby & Wigston BC means we have been their main supply for road sweepers for more than16 years now, which gives us at Scarab great satisfaction with not only in the products we sell but importantly that our relationship and the support we provide our customers is still first-class.

Scarab Live 2012 Review.

The 16th April saw the start of Scarab’s series of road shows around the country, with the first event taking place at Sandown Park racecourse in Surrey. Blessed by clear blue sky and warm sunshine, our hopes of a good turn-out were rewarded and during the day long event we entertained a 30 strong group of visitors with a mixture of presentations and vehicle displays.

Day 2, Tuesday 17th saw the circus set up camp at Worcester Warriors Rugby ground, and whilst the skies were certainly threatening, again dry weather ensured and nigh on 40 visitors were entertained with further presentations and active displays.

The third of our Live events took place just south of Leeds at Tingley and whilst our luck ran out, the rain certainly didn’t. Despite this, those souls brave enough to venture forth were warmly received and benefitted from the Scarab experience, with a greater bias on the indoor activities!

All the events were run in conjunction with the CIWM Business Club, of which Scarab is a founder member, and we were privileged to have the CIWM Junior Vice President, David Beadle give an opening address at Sandown Park, whilst the CIWM President Derek Greedy officiated at the Worcester event and John Skidmore, CIWM Vice President presided over the Leeds experience.

So, for those who were able to attend I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and hope you found it a worthwhile experience, whilst for those who could not make it; don’t worry, we’ll be back at it next year!
