Scarab goes for growth on home and overseas fronts.

Scarab Sweepers Ltd reports further success during 2002 with sales of Scarab single-engined truck-mounted and compact/urban precinct sweepers increasing for the 25th consecutive year. Commenting on the company`s success, Scarab`s Vic Beckwith said: "There are no secrets about Scarab`s marketing plans. Scarab has continued to increase our penetration in those market sectors where we are already involved and have an established operator base and it is our continued desire to make our presence felt in those areas where we are not so well known."

The Kent-based manufacturer says that the UK still offers growth potential, even though Scarab states that its truck-mounted sweepers dominate the 7.5tonne GVW sector. Increased sales of the Magnum range, in both Hydrostatic and Unidrive models, mounted to 13 tonne GVW chassis and upwards, are reported to have increased by a significant factor over the past three years. Larger body capacity, greater water capacity and increased legal payload on any given capacity are cited by the company as prime factors in the success of the Magnum sweepers.

"Operators claiming lower fuel operating costs, along with their own proven productivity benefits, have made our life a little easier," commented Mr Beckwith. "New business is always exciting but repeat orders from satisfied operators, who a few years ago hadn`t heard of Scarab, are also very rewarding," he added.
Complementing the increased sales throughout the UK, a careful growth policy overseas has also been Scarab`s forte and early 2002 saw France, for example, receive its five hundredth Scarab sweeper. The "European capital" Brussels also operates over 20 Scarab truck-mounted, single-engined sweepers.

Major order in hire sector
Scarab has also recently notched up a significant order with Gulliver`s Travels Self Drive, of Bedminster, near Bristol. The company`s hire fleet consists of some 1,200 vehicles and the Municipal Hire Service division of Gulliver`s has ordered 15 Scarab sweepers. The first three Magnum heavy duty road sweepers have joined the fleet.
On the municipal front, the Fleet Engineering Department of Hull City Council, where Scarab Sweepers supplies the city`s main sweeper fleet, has collected several awards recently. These include Green Fleet 2001, Fleet Environmental Manager of the year and UK Fleet and Engineering Manager. Gary Middleton of Hull City Council, said : "The achievement has been a team effort and, with the support given by Dave Kay, Assistant Director of Hull City Council, and all of the staff, it is recognition of the hard work that`s been put into cleansing on a daily basis.
